Here is your first opportunity for extra credit. This will replace your lowest daily or homework grade.
In a well-written comment of at least eight sentences answer the following questions:
Friday during 2nd period many of you viewed the 1:1 video made by our senior leaders. What can we do this year in English to make a difference, not only in our school but our community as well? What types of projects, assignments, charity work, etc. can you come up with? Being that this is an English class, I would obviously like the things we come up with to connect to our subject. How can we learn but give back at the same time?
Feel free to comment on what others have said as well as give your own input. Please respond only if you are willing to take this seriously.

We could make an impact in our community by having a little book club are reading group at the school. That invites our feeder schools like berry, terry and even thompson and pirrung. Where we would pick like one or 2 saturdays or a non-busy day out of the week and just all meet up and read or do english advertisements. To get the community involved in reading but have a fun way to do it.

We could make an impact in our community by encouraging others to write more papers for extra credit. If you give someone a topic that they can connect to and convince them to write a paper about the topic. Then the writer will become better at there wirting.
We could Make the impact by doing more work as a class and getting to know Ever single Person in our class. We should be like close family in the class. I think doin class work Motivates People more because of the fact of Participation grades you participate and making A's at the same time.
And we should have long discussions talking about anything like our teenage society, Stereotypes, the Future and More other Stuff and even right a paper about it.
We could make the impact by doing more papers of what we like and make like a scrapbook so everyone can be creative. And share a little about them self so people can get to know the real you so they wont judge where you came from or who you are. This would make are community better because people would like what we do in class and share it around, people would want to do the same thing and english class would be better.

We could make an impact by doing a book drive, and give the books to the less fortunate feeder schools surrounding Horn. Doing this drive could bring together a lot of people to support reading. We need to make a impact on the kids that hate reading because they are not that great at it. Giving them books more on their level could give the next generation a chance to be great.
Having a yearly school supplies drive could benefit MISD students in need. This could range from books and materials to standardized dress. To add to Britany's comment, having a book drive would help spark students' interest in reading on a regular basis. It would also broaden their vocabulary and in turn improve their writing skills. In addition, Horn students could pair up with feeder schools to tutor younger students. Preparing for TAKS or as simple as helping new readers learn how to read will set students up for sucess. Working together can improve relationships among peers. Even the little things can make a lasting impact.
In order to make an impact on the student body as well as the community, we need to invove every one. My idea is to host a writing/essay contest in our school and the entire district. We could have any students that want to participate write a story over a topic and have the students and even adults vote on the best one. Once a month we would hold the competition and on a givin day we would hold an open reading at one of the schools. People would pay to get in and for consessions (food & drink). They would vote for the best and the person who's essay won would get a prize. The extra money would be donated to organizations in need.
The book drive is a good idea, we could offer extra credit or special days for students who can donate any kinds of books, educational books are most use full but fiction might be ok for a fun read too.
WE CAN INFLUENCE MORE PEOPLE TO BE INVOLVED IN THE BOOK DRIVE BY REWARDING THEM WITH GRADES, CANDY OR SOMETHING. I KNOW WE SHOULD DO IT JUST CAUSE ITS THE RIGHT THING BUT NOT EVERYONE IS AFFECTED BY THAT.
